Important regulations in Egypt are changing after 14 years. No more travelling in special convoys of tour buses when leaving the Sinai Peninsula.
After 14 years, Egypt has decided to change the regulations that made it difficult for tourists to travel around the country and affected holiday comfort. In Egypt, the obligation imposed on tour operators, requiring coaches to travel in single file when travelling from the Sinai Peninsula to Giza and Cairo, is being lifted. The regulations were introduced in 2011 to protect and increase the safety of tourists in connection with the outbreak of the Arab Spring in Egypt.
The obligation to travel in convoys forced tour operators to travel together in tedious coach convoys. The coaches were taken over by the convoy at a designated location, had to travel at a fixed, prescribed speed and had predetermined stopping points. This significantly increased the travelling time from holiday resorts such as Sharm El Sheikh, Dahab and Taba to Cairo and Giza. Fortunately, the regulations have been withdrawn.
