Higher tourist tax in two Portuguese cities
The increased rates will go into effect as early as September this year. This means that both visitors to Lisbon and Oeiras will face additional costs during their stay.
In Lisbon, the tourist tax will be doubled, rising from 2 to 4 euros per night per person. This is the city government's response to the ever-increasing number of tourists, which, while crucial to the local economy, is also putting a strain on the city's infrastructure.
A similar decision was made in the coastal town of Oeiras, where the tourist tax will increase from €1.5 to €3 per night. The increase is in response to similar problems faced by this popular destination, where the level of infrastructure must keep up with the increasing number of visitors.
