Liverpool tourist tax

The most important hotels in Liverpool have decided to introduce a new tax for tourists. From 1 June, visitors to the city of the Beatles will pay an additional £2 per night for each night spent in a hotel.

The new tourist tax, although not a city tax, is not actually a tourist tax... so what is it all about? From 1 June, every tourist will pay an additional £2 per night spent in a hotel in Liverpool. However, this does not apply to all hotels, only to 83 hotels affiliated with The Accommodation BID. So this is not a city initiative, and the additional tax does not apply to all hotels. It also does not apply to private apartments and guesthouses. Owners of establishments that are not subject to the new tax can join the initiative and also charge the new tax per night.

Most of the funds collected by hotels will be allocated to a fund ‘supporting the development of tourism, the promotion of Liverpool and the organisation of cultural and sporting events in the city’. From 1 January 2026, the tax will rise to £3 per night.
