Higher tax on airline tickets in France
The French government has approved the budget law for 2025, which means, among other things, an increase in the solidarity tax on airline tickets. The new regulations will translate into higher travel costs for passengers using French airports.

Impact on travellers and airlines
The tax, known as TSBA (Taxe de Solidarité sur les Billets d'Avion), was first introduced in 2006 by then President Jacques Chirac. The new legislation provides for an increase of between a few and several tens of euros, depending on the length of the route and class of travel.
- Domestic and European economy class flights - tax increase from €2.63 to €7.30.
- Transit passengers - the tax will be €15.
- Long-haul flights (over 5,500 km) - the levy will increase to €40.
Impact on travellers and airlines
Although the tax increase will be moderate, for shorter routes it will not exceed €10. However, the increase in fees for long-haul flights could affect ticket prices and passenger interest in long-haul flights. The French authorities argue that the additional funds will be used to finance public transport and the sustainability of the aviation sector.
