One of Montenegro’s biggest attractions, the island of Sveti Stefan, will once again be able to welcome tourists from 1 July this year.
After a few years’ hiatus, tourists will finally be able to relax on the beach at Sveti Stefan once more. What is Sveti Stefan? It is a town in Montenegro and a unique little island (or peninsula) on the country’s map. Postcard-perfect views and one of the most beautiful spots on the map of Montenegro have been off-limits to tourists in recent years. The reason? A dispute between the hotel operator on the island and the Montenegrin authorities over the use of the beaches. Yes, the hotel operator, because in 1960 the island of Sveti Stefan was transformed into a luxury tourist resort. Now, from 1 July 2026, tourists will once again be able to relax on the beaches of Sveti Stefan and admire the magnificent views of the Montenegrin coast from two of the three available beaches. One will still be reserved exclusively for hotel guests.
