Life as an expat has many facets. On the one hand, there’s the excitement of a new place, culture, and opportunities; on the other, there’s a longing for what’s familiar. And very often, food is the first thing you start to miss. It’s not just about specific products, but about the taste of childhood, the smell of fresh bread, or a simple sandwich that was something completely ordinary back in Poland. That’s exactly why the topic of “Polish stores in Dubai” keeps coming up, both among people who are just planning their move and those who are already there.
Before we move on to places and stores, it’s worth understanding one thing: Polish food in Dubai isn’t the norm, but it is available. Dubai is a massive import market where you’ll find products from all over the world in large supermarkets. However, the model of a single store with a full range of Polish products doesn’t often work here.
Instead, access to Polish products is scattered across various places: from large supermarkets, through discount stores, to community buying groups. And some stores can positively surprise you.
There are many reasons:
Many of us come to Dubai for a year, two, or even longer, and even though the city offers cuisine from around the world at a wide range of prices for food in Dubai restaurants, Polish products often end up on the list of “things I miss.” Often, the motivation is a desire to share the taste of Polish cuisine with family or friends outside the country. Some admit outright that they miss Polish bread and sausage the most.
There is no single, universal address that fulfills every Polish culinary dream. But there are a few tried-and-true methods that really work.
Supermarkets
Many large supermarkets in Dubai have sections dedicated to imported foods. These include, among others:
In places like these, you’ll sometimes find pasta from Italy, cheese from France, and even yogurt and preserves from Poland or countries with similar cuisines. These aren’t always Polish products, but they’re often European products that taste familiar.
The key here is patience and regularly visiting the imported food sections—because the selection changes quite often.
Many Poles in Dubai say outright: this is where I most often buy things that remind me most of the flavors back home.
Although VIVA isn’t a typical Polish store in Dubai, it’s on the list of places most frequently visited by Poles. The store operates on a discount model, placing greater emphasis on affordable prices while maintaining a good selection. A large portion of the products come from Europe, which means the flavors are close to those you remember from Poland. Additionally, many items at VIVA are cheaper than in other supermarkets, which makes a big difference for everyday shopping.
VIVA is a store that operates a bit like a European discount store; its selection is simple but surprisingly wide. You’ll find there:
Although VIVA is a great place, it’s not the only way to get Polish flavors in Dubai. Specific products can also be found in large supermarkets like Carrefour, Spinneys, or Waitrose, especially in the European food sections. They also often appear through group orders organized by Poles or via online sales within local communities. There are many themed groups in Dubai where people share information about imported products and group orders, and sometimes sell items specially imported on request, including tips on where to buy alcohol in Dubai and what the prices are. Thanks to this, you can even buy fresh sausages straight from Poland or baked goods prepared by local bakeries.
If you’re looking for a slightly wider selection of European products or seeking inspiration for souvenirs from Dubai worth buying, it’s worth visiting supermarkets that import food from various countries. In addition to those mentioned earlier:
In such places, you can sometimes find items that resemble the taste of Polish products, even if the brand is different. For many people, such substitutes are sufficient, especially if they care about everyday cooking.
Polish products can be found in Dubai, just a little differently than in Poland or Europe. Dubai is a global city where the shopping system relies mainly on imports and product rotation. This means that not everything is available all the time; sometimes you have to get creative and check different places, and products familiar from Poland appear mainly seasonally. In such conditions, knowing the local community and places like Viva which regularly offer Polish flavors or good substitutes, plays a big role. On the other hand, this diversity also presents a great opportunity even if a specific Polish brand isn’t available, you can often find a product that tastes very similar or pleasantly surprises you with something new.
When planning a trip to Dubai, remember to book the most popular attractions and accommodation in advance, and also check when it’s cheapest to fly to Dubai.
1. Which stores are best to visit when looking for Polish products?
It’s best to use several sources at once to ensure you find what you’re looking for. In Dubai, a great place is VIVA Supermarket, which offers European products at good prices and is often the first choice for Poles seeking familiar flavors. It’s also worth visiting Carrefour and Spinneys, where the imported goods sections including European products allow you to stock up on fresh cold cuts, bread, and sweets. Additionally, following Polish groups on social media makes it easier to order products online and quickly get fresh items that appear on sale occasionally or seasonally.
2. Are Polish sweets and preserves available in Dubai?
Yes, though the selection may be limited. At VIVA, Carrefour, and Spinneys, you’ll find the most popular sweets, jams, and canned goods from Europe, which often taste very similar to those familiar from Poland.
3. Is it worth buying European products instead of strictly Polish ones?
Absolutely. Dubai is a global city, so European products often make excellent substitutes for Polish ones. The taste and quality are similar, and they’re also more readily available and sometimes cheaper. Especially in stores like VIVA Supermarket, you can find products from Central Europe that resemble those you know from home.
