Krakow-Balice Airport is planning a huge investment. The tender process for the construction of a new terminal, which is expected to handle nearly 20 million passengers per year, is beginning.
Year after year, Krakow airport has seen an increase in the number of passengers it handles. The original plans were to expand the airport to a capacity of 12 million passengers per year. However, this number was reached much faster than expected, making it necessary to prepare a new, more ambitious concept.
According to the latest plans, the new terminal in Balice will be able to handle approximately 19 million passengers per year. The investment includes the construction of, among other things, 11 new gates, a new passport control area for travelers from outside the Schengen area, and a new baggage claim hall.
Work on the expansion of Krakow Airport is to be carried out in stages. The first stage of the planned expansion is to be completed in 2029, and the entire investment is scheduled for 2031.
