A super-project referencing the popular Las Vegas Sphere is being built in Dubai.
MGM Resorts has officially revealed plans to build a state-of-the-art facility called "Dubai Sphere". The project is meant to be a reference to the famous Las Vegas Sphere, but will be much smaller in scale.
Seven years after the initiative was first announced, the company announced that the project has finally been approved by the Dubai authorities, with the construction contract awarded in 2024. The entire project is estimated to be worth $2 billion.
Dubai Sphere will be a key component of a complex comprising three brands owned by MGM Resorts: MGM, Bellagio and Aria. These facilities will be located on a common podium, with the sphere positioned exactly in the middle. Although Dubai Sphere will be much smaller than its Las Vegas counterpart, it is still intended to be an unusual architectural feature. The sphere is expected to accommodate 300 people and act as a mini showroom, offering unique attractions for visitors.
MGM Resorts president and CEO Bill Hornbuckle said details of the project will be fully unveiled at the prestigious Skift Global Forum. Dubai Sphere, although smaller, is expected to be an innovative space that will attract tourists and visitors from around the world.
