Iran will resume direct flights to the European Union as early as the end of January. The first route will be Tehran-Paris, operated by the private Iran Airtour Airlines.
After a long hiatus due to sanctions and political tensions, Iran has announced the resumption of direct flights to airports in the European Union. The first flight from Tehran to Paris will take place on 31 January. This is an important step for passengers travelling between Iran and Europe, especially in the face of air traffic restrictions.
The flights will not be operated by sanctioned national airlines such as Iran Air, Mahan Air or Saha Air, which were blacklisted by the European Union in October. A private airline, Iran Airtour Airlines, will take over the connections, thus avoiding sanctions and enabling the resumption of air services to Europe.
The decision to restore air links came in the shadow of tensions between the European Union and Iran. In October 2024, the EU imposed new sanctions on Tehran, accusing the country of supplying Russia with missiles used in the war in Ukraine. The sanctions extended to Iranian airlines, among others, severely limiting air transport options from Iran to Europe.
