An Italian restaurant in Dubai, Acquasale By Cucina, has placed a pineapple pizza on offer for an astronomical AED 1,000. This is a bold step in the controversial debate over pineapple as a pizza topping.
Acquasale By Cucina, a pizzeria located in upscale Palm West Beach, openly admits that it is not fond of pineapple on pizza. To emphasise its stance, it has introduced a pizza with pineapple on the menu, but in true Dubai style - at the equivalent of more than €260. This is a nod to both fans of luxury and lovers of this controversial ingredient.
The AED 1,000 pizza in Dubai is more than just a meal - it's a provocation and a nod to customers who want to experience something unique and perhaps even create a social media storm.
The debate over pineapple on pizza has been going on for years, but few people know that this popular ingredient made its debut in Canada in 1962. Sam Panopoulos, a Greek immigrant, decided to add canned pineapple and ham to his pizzas - just for fun. The result surprised his customers, and the ‘Hawaiian’ pizza became one of the most recognisable in the world.
