Somalia has gained a new airline. The regional carrier Rayaan Air has officially launched its operations, with the goal of expanding domestic air routes and improving transportation access within the country.
The launch of Rayaan Air marks another step in the development of Somalia’s aviation sector. The airline plans to focus primarily on serving regional and domestic routes connecting the country’s major cities. The name of the new airline draws attention due to its similarity to the well-known European carrier Ryanair, although the two companies are not affiliated.
The carrier took delivery of its first aircraft on February 20 at Aden Adde International Airport in Mogadishu. It is from there that the airline plans to expand its operations and build its route network.
