Cuba abolishes airport taxes for tourists

The Cuban authorities have announced the abolition of the $30 airport tax that all foreign tourists visiting the island have had to pay until now. The decision is aimed at reviving tourism, which has been in decline for some time.
Until now, foreign tourists arriving in Cuba had to pay a mandatory entry fee of $30, collected at the border. This fee was introduced after the COVID-19 pandemic as one of the measures to combat the effects of the economic crisis, which has hit the tourism sector, one of the key pillars of the Cuban economy, particularly hard.
The number of foreign visitors to the island is decreasing every year. Inflation, infrastructure problems and competition from other Caribbean destinations are effectively deterring potential tourists. The authorities hope that the abolition of the additional fee will encourage more people to choose Cuba as their travel destination.
