Planned changes to US entry regulations could significantly affect the way people travel to the country. Donald Trump's administration has announced new rules that would require tourists to disclose their social media activity before crossing the US border.
The Trump administration wants people planning to travel to the United States to disclose their social media accounts. According to the proposal, tourists would also have to provide email addresses, phone numbers, and family member information from the last five years. This is to enable more accurate verification of people entering the country.
The new rules would apply to all tourists, regardless of whether they are traveling on a visa or using the ESTA visa waiver program. This means that the disclosure requirement will also apply to citizens of countries that have previously been able to count on simplified entry procedures.
The planned solution could have a major impact on tourism in the United States. Tourism industry experts point out that more restrictive entry procedures may discourage some travelers, especially those who value privacy and quick formalities.
